On Wednesday mornings in the summer, over 90 students, 30 adults, and 5 or 6 boats hit the river for a great day of skiing. The students are encouraged to make goals and work to master skills. Students range in abilities from beginner to intermediate and interests including skiing, barefooting, and wake boarding. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Around noon, the boats go quiet as the students break for lunch and spend time in their small groups. During the small group time, the student leaders teach a Bible Study and spend time leading a discussion on how to apply scripture to their daily life. Not all of the students are regular Bethany attenders. We have skiers from several churches, as well as some who do not attend church at all. The ski team desires to use their talents in ski shows as an outreach to communities. We perform in the Bethany River Service on a Sunday morning in August and the ski team has had opportunities to broaden this outreach by doing several "mini-mission trips" where we do a show, share the gospel, and attract attention to a local church, camp, or ministry. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Water Ski Team began with a couple of parents getting involved and investing time, money, and talent into the lives of their own kids and their friends. What began as a few students learning to ski has grown into 99 students this summer, dozens of adult volunteers, a week-long ski retreat, and students leading their peers in studying and applying the Word of God. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
